About

Hark, traveller, and behold my wares! By Needle & Blade is on a quest to bring a touch of enchantment to your regular tabletop gaming night, and help your home feel a little more like the castle of your dreams.

Everything is sewn from scratch in colourful cotton fabric and hand-printed with hand-carved designs for that irreplaceably human charm. Choose between prints of mystical beasties, real life critters, and magical items, all inspired by the fantastical worlds of TTRPGS, and stylised in bold angular shapes influenced by Medieval heraldry and Celtic knotwork – and now vintage advertisements, in my new series of posters for magic items.

The One Behind It All

I’m Avery, a fashion designer and illustrator with a BSc in Fashion Technology from Heriot-Watt. I love historical fashion, swashbuckling fantasy, silly villains, and obnoxiously bright magenta. I’ve been obsessed with TTRPGs ever since my partner first invited me to join in a game.

I design, sew and print every one of my wares myself in my home studio in Leith, helped and hindered by my production assistant Miss Cat.

How the Tale Began

The first dice trays and banners were made as end-of-campaign gifts to my GM and fellow party members, featuring the mob boss dragon we slayed, and my character’s tattoo commemorating each of his friends, respectively.

I thought it would be lovely for everyone to be able to play tabletop games with a personalised, handmade dice tray, perhaps representing your character, matching your hoard of dice, or depicting your favourite fantastical foe, and so I set to work creating more.
